A couple months ago my mom discovered an amazing little cafe in town called Julia’s Juices. We’ve tried a few things including raw pizza, carrot pad thai, soups, raw, gluten-free vegetable wraps (the most amazing, dehydrated bread replacement!) elixirs, smoothies, raw desserts and sorbets, and of course, the juices.
Everything is SO good! It’s now my favorite place to have lunch. A couple weeks ago my cousin and I went there for lunch and were treated to a sample of a new batch of lavender elixir as they were making it and I fell in love. It had the most delicious, sweet flavor and is primarily for sipping and calming down when tense or stressed. I think it worked!
We both ordered the Pizza in the Raw with a spinach side salad and cold-pressed juices. He got the Tropic Kale which is made of kale and in-season fruits and I ordered the Nopal and Spinach (I wanted something lighter and calming). It had nopal (cactus), celery, parsley, spinach, and in-season fruits. The pizza… is amazing! I can’t get over it! It has tomato sauce, cashew “cheese”, spinach, tamari-marinated mushrooms, onions and bell pepper- all on a dehydrated cauliflower and tomato basil crust! It doesn’t look like a regular pizza, but it tastes like pizza and keeps you full for a long time! And the added bonus is that you don’t need meat; the cashews are loaded with protein!
Everything they make is from scratch using locally-grown produce and produce from their own farm, and the recipes are all created by Julia and her daughters. They usually offer little cookies in their dessert section with fruit centers that are the perfect finish to any meal as well as other types of cookies, sorbets and smoothies. Mom has bought their vegetable wraps several times by themselves to take home and use as bread for my gluten-free sandwiches. I actually prefer it to bread! The flavor is outstanding.
If you are visiting Pismo or Avila anytime soon, definitely stop by Julia’s Juice Bar & Cafe for a healthy and delicious lunch or dinner (or breakfast). Or stop by the local farmer’s market where you’ll find them selling their juices on Wednesdays!
